I know I am simplifying things a lot since there are other variables as
well but, how about a list of lenses that work best for slide film (low
contrast to help counter the narrow latitude of the film) and print film
(high contrast because the film has greater latitude).

I'd say the 3.6 is a good pick for high contrast subjects, because it
would help reduce the contrast on film.
