Coma! Bingo! I see the distinctive shape in an out-of-focus highlight in the upper left hand corner of this image:

That would also explain the similarly misshapen gravel in a couple other pix.

How are the Zuiko superwides at correcting for this?

When details smear, you are probably encountering coma. It is especially
evident in highlights, when take the appearance of comets.  When circles
become ellipses, it is natural distortion caused by forcing lines
straight in a super wide lens.
