I am a student in the UK studying art and would like to know what is the best camera for me. I would like manual features and auto features will be useful . Im not an expert (in fact im a novice) so I would much appreciate some advice on what to get with about £200 (US$290) I have previously used an OM 10 and have been introduced to an OM 40 - Is this any good? and what about the OM 4.
Thanks

I would recommend an OM2000. It is a basic body that can be purchased new. Its basic design is shared by a similar model with a Nikon nameplate. The advantage of the Olympus version(all manufactured by Cosina) over the NIKON is that it has an excellent spot meter built in. Its advantage over a genuine Olympus body is that it is inexpensive for a new one. The last thing you need is to be messing about with is the posssiblity of an unreliable used body in the price range you can afford. You do not have the time for it, unlike most of the people on this list for whom it is a hobby. Pick up a used multi-coated 50mm, F1.4 lens and learn photography with it. It is an excellent lens and very inexpensive used even in like new condition. In a few years, if you carry on with it you can pick up additional Olympus stuff and your current investment will still serve you well. Good luck.
