DInkar - to answer your question about paying in France from the UK,
have you tried Eurocheques? I have a Eurocheque book from my bank
(Barclays), costs £8 a year for the service. The idea is that you can
write the cheques in any Euro currency, then when it is presented your
bank will convert at the current rate and debit your account in
sterling. Just like using a credit/debit card abroad.

So your seller does the USD to FFR conversion, you send the cheque in
FFR and your bank does the conversion to sterling. You would need to
get the seller to check that their bank is happy with the Eurocheque
though.

I've not used them much, but on the few occasions that I have they
have been very useful indeed.

Or you could just nip over and collect it. Paris is only 3 hours from
London on the train these days, after all. Makes for an expensive
camera though!

John
