The OM-1 can use either linear or circular.
The OM-2sp requires a circular.

Purists will tell you to always use a linear unless you _require_ a
circular.  A circular _is_ a linear with a quarter-wave plate immediately
behind it (usually cemented to it).  This is yet another piece of glass.
Even if there's no air between them, it's still another interface (albeit
much less likely to cause the problems an air-glass interface can).  Me?  I
don't worry about it and use a circular on both the OM-1n and OM-4 (which
requires it just like the OM-2sp does).
