| The first part of your description sounds like there might be a sliver
| of metal stuck to the magnet inside the galvanometer.  That or the
| needle may be catching (if it's been bent - please tell me you haven't
| tried cleaning above the screen!), or the upper stop may be sticky.

| around part of the meter's frame - the meter would be off at every light
| level if that were the problem, though.

| Any and all of these can be checked and repaired by someone who knows
| how.  The good news is that the meter's alive, and that means in all
