Just to correct one small part of your narrative here: the flash will 
fire at f4 if you set the switch to flash.  But you can set the 
switch to another aperture after you have selected flash.  As Doris 
said, you can then set the flash to Full and work the exposure 
(aperture) out with the GN - if you know what that is...
