You're relatively new to the list, so you haven't seen any of the past
acrimonious "flamefests" between U.S. list members about controversial U.S.
politics. As I recall, one of more notorious ones (and I shudder to
mention it) was the impeachment and trial.
This is an international list with a very large number of non-U.S. members.
The eruption of flaming clogs the level of mail on the list with huge
numbers of very OT postings of no remote interest to the non-U.S. list
members. It's why the consensus on this list is not to discuss politics,
religion or SUV's. You can easily find the SUV Holy War in the list
archives. It is a classic example of what can happen.
