Some interesting points surfaced in response to my note. At least they were
polite.

I haven't, and from what you describe I wouldn't want to be. I don't think
anyone who knows me could possibly accuse me of being pompous... all
comments to the contrary offlist please ;-)

What I meant was that, if everyone sits around fondling their OMs and
polishing their lens collection they won't be creating photographs. The true
goal IMHO is creating photographs, not being a pompous ass or being a
jewellery fondler.

The results are what matter, they pay the bills. That's why they don't sit
around discussing whether a B+ rating at the edge is good enough resolution.
Discussion of the merits, drawback, benefits and experiences with equipment
is great, and this list has helped me a lot. But that still doesn't amount
to meaningful image-making. I learn far more from seeing people's
photographs than reading of their camera collection. The wonders of the
Unofficial Gallery, the ADITL & TOPE events are the essence of it for me.
Thankyou to everyone who posts images for sharing. Even Lex's pie-dish flash
diffuser, which has me thinking of new ways to work with flash, a light
source I really dislike using.

Let me get this straight: I'm not against using fast, exotic or extreme
lenses. My point was not some elitist cr@p about only ever owning one lens
and "being an artist", it was about making whatever you had _work_ for you.
I can appreciate the finer points of OM body design, Zuiko lens qualities, I
just don't get off on it. It's there, I like it, but it's not the most
important thing in my life. Mike Veglia is happy with using that 350 f2.8
not because it's big or expensive or because it impresses the other guys,
but because it feels right and he loves the results. That's how it should be.

Doris has again used words to communicate it better than I ever could. Thankyou.

Simon E.
