Unfortunately the amount of work to convert a T45 is pretty large. Even the
simplest thing like the SCR switch is not rated to interupt the high power
capacitor rapidly/frequently. It would probably be damaged if you tried to
run it that way. In a flash like the T32/T45 the flash currents reach between
200-300Amps and the SCR is only rated by it's manufacturer (Mitsubishi) to
operate a total of 5000 times at those levels and with a rest of something
like a second between flashes to prevent overheating.

I haven't been following this Metz thread too carefully but my general
comment is that the later Metz flashes are designed to use a uP digital
interface to connect to the current crop of all digital wonderbricks. This
makes backward compatibility to SCA300 series (pure digital trigger) adapters
a limited market for them, so that may be why they are not supporting the OM
on their newer lines. It is interesting that the SCA300 adapters were a
universal compatible interface with modules, at least in theory, being
compatible amongst a variety of vendors (mainly/all?) European
(braun/agfa/metz/etc). Cables were probably custom for each vendor.

Talking of car batteries for flashes, I am currently playing with an
old Braun F900 (GN200 ft). Internally this unit is built like a tank and
could use a variety of batteries including a wet cell lead acid battery
(mini -car battery). The invertor can provide energy at 50J/sec roughly 8
times faster than a T32. Because batteries are no longer made in the correct
size, these units can be purchased used very inexpensively. Ideal if you want
to experiment with high power flashes without spending the $300-400 needed
for an equivalent Metz or Sunpak. The F900 even works with SCA300 adapters
meaning it should be possible to get/use a Metz SCA adapter for OM.

                  Regards,
                 Tim Hughes
