I've compared the f=40cm close up lens on a couple of Zuikos other than the 50mm and the focusing range doesn't seem to change significantly. It's approximately 45cm @ infinity on the Zuiko 28/2.8 and approximately 55cm @ infinity on the Zuiko 75-150/4. That's particularly interesting because if the 75-150/4 has a significant flaw it's in its lack of close focusing ability.

What really changes is magnification. I find myself using the f=40cm close up lens more often with the 75-150/4 zoom than any other lens. This allows me to make gross changes in magnification with the zoom ring and fine focus with the focus ring. At the 150mm focal length the combination gets approximately 1:2 magnification. Reasonable viewfinder brightness because the close up lens doesn't affect the f/4 maximum aperture, and very good resolution with somewhat less contrast than the Zuiko 50/3.5 macro. I've used this combo quite a bit when shooting petrified wood structures to good effect. Nicely fuzzes out unwanted backgrounds.

...a Olympus Close-Up Lens f=40cm...changes the focusing range of a 50mm f1.8 from 45cm-infinity to 19cm-45cm. Is there a formula I can use to figure out the effect it will have on the focusing range of other lenses?
