The angle of acceptance for my eyes is about 170deg. You can test this 
yourself: look straight forward and hold up your hands on each side, move 
them back while still looking forward. There is a point where you can't see 
them anymore. For me it'a about 170deg, almost 180. I took vision training 10 
years ago to expand my visual field and improve my stereo vision. It is very 
useful to be able to drive and see both mirrors while looking straight ahead. 
I can usually identify the color and size of a vehicle in a mirror, but not 
much else. 

However, my resolution diminishes considereably from center to edge. So maybe 
a single coated 18mm is close? <g>
