You've got "messed up" (technical term) zoom rollers and zoom tubes.
usually from impact damage. Not a simple fix. Not a home job.

Subject: [OM] IS-3 Question / Problem

| I have a problem with my IS-3.
| After letting, someone look at it they push the zoom lens in.
| As a result, If you do not turn off the camera at 35mm zoom setting, the
| camera will shut off when you turn it on, and the only way it will work is
| to push the zoom in then power it on if you forget to set it to 35mm. Is
| there a cheap fix for it? It is only a minor annoyance to remember to set
it
| at an end of a shoot.
|
| Thanks
|
| Daniel
