If I understand Olympus's argument regarding lens design for digital cameras 
(which apparently is shared by Schneider as well),
the problem wouldn't/shouldn't really manifest itself with cameras like the 
D1/D30 due to the small sensor size. I would expect the
problem only to be serious at the edges of the images made from very wide angle 
lenses, probably manifesting itself as severe
falloff.

Rumor has it that both Contax and Pentax will be releasing digital SLR bodies 
with full 24mm x36mm sensors sometime next year.
It will be interesting to see how they perform with super-wide angle lenses. 
Contax may have an advantage here, since there digicam
will be using the newly designed AF lenses, which presumably have been designed 
 with digital applications in mind. Assuming the
Pentax uses the venerable K-mount (as it is rumored too), it shouldn't be hard 
to find an old super-wide that most definitely was not
designed with digital in mind.
