I went back and bought the issue, partly because it contained a free Ilford
year planner. The text of the advert is as follows:

"You're in a Lebanese mental hospital just after it has been bombed.
The walls reverberate with the sound of moans and shrieks. A young boy walks
up to you, the pain of warfare written across his face.
Do you hug him, and console him, or photograph him ?
Will you feel better helping him to safety, or capturing the terror and
bewilderment he has just experienced ?
Should you even be here in the first place ?
After all, even the world's best photograph can't stop a war happening.
These children have already been traumatised, and you could just be
prolonging their distress.
Do you take the shot?

                      THE MANUAL OM3Ti
Taking a picture should be anything but automatic."

The photo alongside is of naked children in a bare room, using on-camera
flash. Below is a tiny pic of the OM3Ti, the Olympus logo and
www.olympus.co.uk - nothing else.

I'm not sure whether this is what some people term 'ironic' humour or a
serious debate on the ethics of photojournalism. Olympus is running two-page
adverts in the photo press for the E-10 which are more obviously intended as
spoof news stories, and displaying a SSP of £1499.99 ($2250 US). Unless
retailers discount heavily, it will yet again be much cheaper in the USA.
BJP will be reviewing the E-10 in an upcoming issue.
