To be honest, I did wonder about that. I had a chat with my wife but we came
to the conclusion that the seller did advertise it as a non fully working
camera and that if it turns out to be OK then it's obviously his mistake. I
could have offered to send more money but I was not intending to purchase a
fully working OM-2n in the first place.

I completely agree here because the shop should have at least checked the
batteries. But then again...
I think what's happened is that the seller walked in, said my camera is
working in manual but not in auto and the camera shop thought immediately it
was the circuitry. Perhaps proposed to have a look for a fee in case the
problem could be fixed without changing it but the seller didn't want to pay
whatever the shop would have charged with the knowledge that the circuitry
was no longer available. This sounds like a plausible explanation as to the
terms of the advert.
