Not certain about the other brands (Gitzo, etc.). The bogen legs have a 3/8 inch threaded stud on a round plate for the head and setscrews on the plate to keep the head from turning (and coming unscrewed). One can thread the head on by hand and lock it into place with the setscrews instead of torquing it on very tightly. IMO it's more secure.

It allows removing the head relatively easily by simply loosening the setscrews. This can be handy if you have more than one head and change them for the task at hand.
