Considering that I mentioned several uses for the 50/1.8, including use as
a better loupe than one can buy for similar money, I'd like to claim my
prize. What do I win? ;-) And yes, I'm actually one of those unspeakable
weirdos that's bought a couple of 50/1.8's from the stores that usually
have more of them than bodies to put them on. Some type of 50mm lens should
be a compulsory purchase for anybody with any type of SLR body. In the OM
line the 50/1.8 just happens to be one of the most outstanding bargains
that any photographer is ever likely to come across.

As far as OM10's, I got started in Zuikography a few decades ago when a
used OM-10 w/manual adapter and included 50/1.8 for something like $65 or
so was considered an extravagant purchase for a household that consisted at
the time of a grad student and a minimum wage earner. Times and finances
have changed considerably, but as Tom points out there are still amazing
comparative bargains in out of favor OM bodies and standard lenses. The
fact is that I've quite recently seen perfectly serviceable OM-10's with
standard lens for little more than the above example. Even though the OM-10
gets little respect these days, it's still a quite competent little camera.
It's far more versitle than similarly priced P&S cameras. And I question
how many plastic P&S cameras will still be working in 20 years.
