One advantage of the 85 over a 50 is the extra working distance you can get.
It's one thing to photograph a model that you know well and is comfortable in
front of the camera with a 50. With many models, unless you are shooting a
full length portrait, the 50 brings you into a range that is a bit intusive. I
have even used a 135 when outdoors. (Indoors there often isnot enough room!)
