I always thought that the longer lens (the short tele) was used for portraiture because it offered less close-up distortion of, say, the nose in relation to the remainder of the face (than a shorter focal length like the 50, any 50).

I've probably said too often already how much I admire the results David Irisarri gets with his 50/1.2, but based on the scans he's uploaded to his website, if I were to begin using the OM system for serious portraiture the first lens I'd get would be the 50/1.2 - not the 85/2, or any other conventional portrait lens. And I suspect that for portraiture the 55/1.2 would do as well.

Maybe it's the bokeh, maybe it's the combination of wonderful subject resolution combined with a soft background, maybe it's the quality of his scans, or maybe it's just David's lovely models, but every time I visit his website I tell myself I've gotta get that 50/1.2 some day.
