If you want to regulate temperature in the film wash, you *don't* have to
use continuously running water. Washes that are highly effective can be
done with four or five changes of fresh water, agitated or inverted
(preferably the latter) for one minute each, with a final rinse in distilled
or bottled water and some Photo-Flo (or other surface-tension-reducing
agent). By the time you're on your fifth change, what's left of the
chemicals should be close to archivally-small quantities.

Sounds like a good idea. Up to know I have always left the film tank under a
running tap for about 20 minutes. Initially I felt a bit guilty about
wastage of water, until the last few months in the UK, that is;-)

Never had the reticulation problem that has been highlighted. At least I now
I'll know if I do.

I started using a while ago, deonised water for the final wash, together
with a wetting agent. The negs dry out a lot better than using tap water,
which is very hard in our area and prone to leaving deposits. I am indebted
to Ray Moth, who I think suggested this idea in the first place on the list
some time ago. One thing though. Deonised water here in the UK seems to be
in short supply, particularly the 5 litre containers. When I mentioned this
at Halford's, the guy reckoned it was something to do with demand connected
with larva lamps and tropical fish. Apparently the former, from the
seventies, are back in fashion. Haven't tried bottled water (the other
kind).
