I always use a case except when using a winder or MD.

This is partly a habit from rock climbing where you absolutely trash the
camera if you don't use one. I have one old style ever-ready case that is
literally worn completely through on most of the edges from rock scrape. The
aluminum reinforcing plate in the base of the case is bent out from the base
on both sides. The body inside only shows strap rub and pentaprism top (case)
rub. These cases work really well to protect the camera from scratching and
impact.

I like the semi hard cases the best now.
Even when not climbing they have saved my bodies from the numerous scuff
marks and minor dents that others seem to accumulate.

I recently bent the filter ring on my 50 3.5 when it was in my camer bag on a
bare body and winder. I need a winder case!

Doris and others complain about fungus promoting aspects of the cases but I
have never had problems like that. It maybe that, that only happens in
Florida or other high temp/high humidity areas.

                  Regards,
                 Tim Hughes
