Street thieves target the gormless - standing gawping upwards at the
architecture or wandering slowly and aimlessly with wunderbrick in hand
makes you a target. Walk with purpose, look determined, be aware of the
people around you as well as the scenery (they're often better subjects
anyway) makes you look less vulnerable. Try and look serious. Stay away
from the kerb or keep your bag on the other shoulder.
Tripod - get one of those Leiki combination walking stick/monopods - makes
a fair weapon too - or use the old string and tripod screw trick.
