Heh heh, I've stopped counting the number of times I've been down on my
hands and knees on the floor looking for something that "just fell out".

Here's a trick I use to help avoid that. If you have a darkroom, grab
the largest developing tray you have. Set it on your desk and put the
camera inside of it. Do all of your work over the tray so that if
anything
falls off, the part will stay in the tray. Works great, except for
those
nasty springs.... :-)

For those of you without a dark room (me for instance). I have
found a Large "Cookie" sheet, the kind with a 1/2" (13mm) lip around the
edge, and a 6 or 12 place "Muffin" tin are an excellent work space for
anything from small electronic devices to a FT 200 gearbox. The trick
is to place the parts/pieces taken off, in the "Muffin" tin cups, in the
order the come off such that it is "obvious" how it goes back together.
The word "obvious" here defines the quantity of items in each cup. More
complicated endeavors may require more than one "Muffin" tin. If you
suspect small bit to jump and/or fall out a paper towel lining the
"Cookie" sheet will often kill the bounce of an errant ball bearing
before it has a chance to mate with the dust bunnies.
My first set came from my kitchen, and once I'd done a gear change
in them my wife didn't want them back. I've since found they're also
very cheap at garage sales, a much better source if your S.O. isn't as
understanding as mine.

P.S. I hope somebody has been keeping track of these disassembly
procedures and logging them by model. We could have our own OM repair
manuals aimed at the tasks DIY's can handle.
