This is when a neodymium magnet can come in handy ;-)

I bought some on ebay for just this sort of eventuality as I have lost 
count of the number of times I have lost a tiny screw, spring or 
ball bearing.

Once I had acquired the magnets I went over an area where I had lost just 
such a ball bearing from an Oly extension tube some months previously.  
The technique worked as I actualy did find it.

Another good technique is to cut of the toe/foot part of a pair of 
stockings, push it down the handpiece of a vacuum cleaner, folding the 
open end over the lip then push on a 'crevice' tool concentrator nozzel 
and then vacuum the target area carefully.  You have to stop every now and 
then and empty out the stocking into a bowl.

Going through the accumulated fluff is the fun part.
