Wayne,

Wildlife, birds, and scenics are my most sought-after photo targets as
well. I own or formerly owned the 65-200/4, the 50-250/5, the 85-250/5,
the 300/4.5, and a Tamron 80-200/2.8. If I had to choose only one, it
would be the Tamron plus its matched 2X converter. Its the heaviest and
largest though. Best bang for the size is the 65-200/4, its small and
light. Also have experience with the 600/6.5 and 350/2.8. Neither is any
fun to pack into the woods. I have also found that bean bags are the most
stable and forgiving lens supports and are very easy to pack. Target
shooters had that figured out a long time ago.
