I tried Rudy's suggestions (exercise the mode switch, "fiddle" with the
battery cover to get better contact, try fresh batteries, etc.) and none of
those worked.

I checked to see if the mirror is stuck to the foam per Keith's suggestion
and, much to my amazement found that the mirror is *not* stuck but,
rather, moves freely! It drops down without any resistence when I move
it with my finger, and crisply snaps back when I let go.

I'm *not* gonna try Keith's suggestion of removing bottm plate screws to
check for rust, because with *my* mechanical skills that will *surely* kill
it if it isn't dead already. :-)

Frankly, folks, she looks to be pretty dead. No lights... no 'peeeps'...
no nothing! (SIGH!) We're going to our favorite used-camera store in
awhile, so I'll take it along and see if they have any ideas. But, even
more so than last night, hopes that it'll recover are fading fast.

Thanks, again, for all the suggestions. I'll report back one last time
when we get back from the trip to the camera store.

Regards,

Chris

P.S. I'm trying desperately to stay on the "up" side here... the rear
lens cap and body cap that came with it DO work, and they're both gen-
u-whine Olympus! :-)
