[OM] New Life Into an Old OM-1n

I'd like to share a recent success I've had in "re-morphing" an old OM-1n.
I've always liked having a fully manual mechanical body in my bag. While I
can't justify the expense of an OM-3, I was unhappy with both of my OM-1
bodies; meters were off, sticky mirrors, dim focusing screens & no film box
top holder on their film backs which I must have as I can't recall what film
is where.

I developed the following solution with the kind help of John Hermanson of
CAMTECH:

- I sold off the OM-1 bodies and bought a "clean" looking OM-1n black body;
I picked a body that was visually near perfect and had no dents; the that
owner had advised me that the meter was off and, of course, batteries were
not readily available. I bought it cheaply because of those conditions and
did not care as it was going to CAMTECH for overhaul & battery conversion
without me ever using it.

- CAMTECH developed the following package to "morph" my new OM-1n:
conversion to SR44 batteries (common to all of my other Oympus bodies), a
new 2 series Olympus focusing screen for brighter viewing, a new OM-4t black
replacement film back (easily snaps on & fits perfectly) that sports a nifty
film box top holder , and a full overhaul to clean and adjust meter and
shutter speeds.

I've now got a wonderfully functioning black OM-1n with a bright screen,
film box holder, common batteries, accurate shutter/meter, full manual
function & that wonderful OM-1(n) shutter/mirror mechanism sound.

By buying a "non-working" OM-1n body and putting together an
overhaul/upgrade package with CAMTECH, the camera came out far less
expensive than an OM-3.

Please pass any comments/questions to the list and off list to me directly
as I only rec've the digest and may miss a direct contact
(frank.w.kinkead@xxxxxxxxxx).
