Hi Eric,

Welcome to the list. Here's my $.02 (might as well join the growing crowd)

I had only an OM-1n (manual) for many years, then was given an OM-2. There's
a lot to be said, IMHO, for doing it "the hard way" with a manual camera,
you certainly are forced to learn a lot. However, the convenience and
increased flexibility you pick up with the features of the OM-2 are really
nice.

In the last month, I've picked up an OM-4 and an OM-4T. The additional
features of either of those cameras are really great, although I haven't had
enough time with them yet to get used to all the additional goodies.

I've got two possible courses as recommendations:

1) Start with a camera line the OM-1n. You'll learn the 'craft" of
photography and have more money left over for lenses and accessories. The
money you invest in accessories won't be lost as they will work for any
other OM body you pick up later.

OR

2) Bite the bullet (it's a big one) and get a 4T or 4Ti body. You'll be
poor, but as another list member already mentioned, you'll have a camera in
current production and be able to grow into it for many years, but you'll
probably wait a while for any accessories.

Ebay can be a good source. I use it quite a bit myself. You'll have to get a
feel for the various sellers but there are some good deals to be had as long
as you're careful about not getting over-eager. Another good one, according
to other list members is KEH camera, but I've yet to use them myself.

HTH

hey to everyone,
my name's eric and i've been recently introduced in the last year to the
world of OM photography and the obsession that it becomes. over christmas i
went to sedona, az and used my dad's OM-2 and was hooked ever since. i don't
have a camera of my own but before the summer comes i would really like to
invest in something nice. I was wondering what some good advice would be for
a guy that wanted possibly to have a small side career in photography about
a good camera to start off with? i am interested in something that will grow
with my level of experience and knowledge so i don't have to go buy
something new in 10 years. i've come to the conclusion that the OM-2 is the
way to go. what do you all think? thanks for any advice.
