I bought at such an absurdly low price that the cost of an 'oil change and 
grease' may be as high as a factor of X30! But it's still a worthy 
consideration especially as the transport motion feels decidedly harsh. 
Dropping the bottom plates reveals nothing untoward so the mechanism up top 
probably needs some TLC. And I take your advice about the diaphragm, too 
because the rest of the lens certainly seems OK.

Welcome, John.

I really think it is worth it to take an old camera to a reputable
service facility to have it cleaned, lubricated and adjusted. The
camera may function without it, but you can be assured that it will
then operate up to the specs established for it by Olympus. I think
goes for the lens too.  You may be able to pick up an inexpensive
replacement for the lens, but it is likely that you will also get a
lens that also may need service.
