It's illegal to bid on your own auctions or to have someone else do it for you 
(shill bidding).

Yes - this one's a bit silly.
On the eBay topic - I'm about to place a few (non-Oly) items on offer and I
usually set a reserve, with a cost to me. I notice that some people simply
make a dummy first bid on their own items to set a minimum price, like this
joker. Is this a better technique - I don't seem to remember seeing rules
about this in the eBay instructions. Is it even legal?
