On my daily jog I go past a Goodwill store. (For those of you who don't
have Goodwill stores, they are a chain of second-hand shops in the US.) I
stop in occasionally for a quick look inside the "valuables" cabinet,
where camera gear appears occasionally. The other day, I noticed the
Goodwill store had hung a series of large self-promotional signs from the
ceiling, touting Goodwill as the store that sells good things for less.
These signs were obviously new promotional materials sent from Goodwill
headquarters. The signs showed photos of the different items representing
the categories you might find in the store: a blender for kitchen goods,
a sweater for clothing, etc. Cameras were one of the categories being
promoted and, taking a closer look at the signs, I thought the camera
pictured on the sign looked familiar. Indeed it was. On closer
inspection, the featured camera turned out to be a minty chrome OM-1.
That OM-1 was featured on every sign in the joint. And that, my friends,
has been the ONLY OM I've ever seen inside a Goodwill.
