I can personally atest ...pun intended..... to the remarkable sharpness of
the G series lenses. They are spectacular. Check out the test (1995?) and
you will see RED A+ over most of the f stops up to 20x24!
I too have shot with the 90mm f4 Rokkor of the Minolta CLE and also have a
90mm f4 C Leica M lens (no body to test it on yet). The Contax stuff is
untouchable as far as any 35mm lenses I have shot with. I haven't shot with
the Zuiko 90mm yet.
Ofcourse, rangefinders don't have mirrors and they have the added advantage
of the rear element close to the film plane because of lack of needed space
taken up by the mirror of SLR's.
I guess that brings up something that I have meant to before. Since we shoot
with Olympus and Zuikos in large part due to their qualities of compactness
and lightweight, I think it would terrible to not mention a true champion of
compactness-the Minolta CLE.
I shot for 20+ years with Olympus thinking I had the really small stuff until
I grabbed a hold of a Minolta CLE and its 45mm f2 lens (or its 28mm lens).
Right here at my desk I have a sample of a Rokkor M 28mmf2.8 and the Zuiko
28mm f2.8. The Rokkor M is "half" the lens-tiny! It takes 40.5mm filters
(as does its sisters the 45mm f2 and the 90mm f4 Rokkors).
Zuiko and Olympus are masterful works and I think represent the best all
around for me. I do, however, appreciate other cameras that do compliment
this gear.
I hope others on this list are also open minded to looking at what the others
offer.
This is how many of us came to Olympus anyway-because of how it holds up to
the competition.
