For the 35RD, RC, SP and some other Olympus classic compacts, I do
have more than one each on hand. I usually pick the good cosmetics and
malfunction one, it is cheaper and can be restored myself. I really
want to buy more 35RD and save them, I will not accumulate too much, I
will sell some to fund up for next purchase.

The 35RD is one of the most problematic Olympus compacts, I have never
found one that is fully function, they all suffer from oil shutter.
Okay I have not pay over $150 for any RD. Last year I remember I have
seen some sold over $200 in ebay, they could be function okay but too
expensive. I even saw a guy sold one on ebay, he mentioned he bought
it from Cameraquest, paid over $250, just work for a short time and
failed, so he lost the confidence on it.

Besides the oil shutter problem, IMHO the 35RD is the best Olympus
full frame compact, it has F1.7 lens, silent shutter, smooth winding
mechanism, 1/2 to 1/500s shutter. Up to this moment all the RD I came
across has working and accurate shutter. The 35RC and SP are the other
two nice Olympus compacts, but the RC only down to 1/15s and SP is too
heavy and high shutter vibration/noise.

The CLA cost for such camera is usually very expensive, it take lots
of time to disassembly, clean and reassembly and you have to be very
careful to avoid damage the parts. I have also seen some non
professional repair on the compacts, the screws are just removed and
put back without any proper thread lock in place, for the long term
the screws were loose out due to vibration. Although not all screws
need thread lock but some critical one do.
