Pawn shops in general mystify me. They pay absolute bottom dollar for what
they take, then want the moon for it (in comparison). I'm 80 miles from LA,
more from SD so I wouldn't call this the "high rent district". Last time I
asked about an OM-1n (posted about it here not long ago) the guy asked if
I'd make an offer, and when I offered him the parts price for an obvious
parts camera, he looked at me like I was nuts.

My guess is he'd still have doubled his money. As it was, he was asking the
price I paid for my OM-1n, NEW.

The pawn shops in the suburbs, however, are much more willing to price
fairly
and dicker/deal with you, as a rule. I've gotten some DF deals on tools in
them. But see VERY little Olympus gear. The occasional OM-PC, etc.

Another thing I've learned is that prices/deals will vary widely within the
same shop, depending upon which employee you are dealing with. Some will
try
to help you get the best price ("Want to make an offer?"). Others won't
lift
a finger for you ("It's $90.00" "Would you take less for it?" "Nope. It's
$90.00"). Egos, personalities, baggage?
