An old friend of mine had the 500 4.5 Sigma APO but sold it (needed the
cash). This item is BY FAR the best 500 I have used (yes better than our
beloved Zuiko). It could also take superb astrophotogrpahy pictures,
especially when mounted to a good equitorial mount. I would buy this lens
if I had the cash. My only 500mm is a Kalimar mirror, which I got for $90
(w/ case a 3 filters). I just wanted a "fun" long lens, which it is.
If anyone can affored the 500 4.5 Sigma, I would say go for it!!!

I have one of these - a very nice lens and the ONLY choice in something
this big and fast for OM. Has a built-in hood with an add-on hood
extension, 30.5mm drop-in filters and a hefty aluminum case. These went
for about $3600 new and I believe they are no longer available in MF mounts
(But still available in the various AF versions).
Just in case anyone is interested, I can e-mail a digital photo of mine if
a visual aid is necessary.
