You have received some pretty good advice already, but I use a dust
can alone to remove dust, and use the software to "clean" the scan
once done. Vuescan (www.hamrick.com) has a pretty effective cleaning
system.

I'm trying to scan an image with a film scanner (scanwit 2720s). I seem
to have two problems:
a) Colour balance
b) dust dust dust
