I have a keepsake from one of the first girls I taught. She gave me an IOU for $1200 USD if she ever got married. Now what equipment should I go for? :-) In that first year class, many have been in and out of jail, and one became a youth pastor. Guess which one gave me the most trouble? Yep, he jumped me the first day of class and tried to wrestle me to the ground from behind.

We do tend to take the failures or our "clients" personally. I used to do
wedding photography and when a couple I have photographed gets divorced I
take if personally. That makes no sense at all. Perhaps it is because I
worked so hard to create images of a couple and it makes me mad that they
"broke" my work. With teachers, the good ones worry about the futures of
their students. It makes their failures hard to take but you can revel in
their successes.
