Okay, no OM content here save all my slides are shot with either an OM-2N or
an OM-1N. That said, here in the wilds of rural Maine, E-6 processing is not
cheap. The best I can do is drive about 50 miles roundtrip and pay $8.30
(including tax) per 36-exposure roll, and then only if I take my plastic
slide box from the last roll back to the shop. Fuji Velvia costs $8.30 a
roll (including tax), and, needless to say, that makes the total cost of a
roll of film right up there with two movie tickets and 1/8 of a bag of
popcorn, especially throwing in the cost of the 50 mile drive.

Bob,

I have a 100+ mile round trip if I want to get to a lab that will process E-6 in house . . . which is what I do for all 120/220 E-6 and C-41 processing. Do you have a "Kodak Premium Processing" (aka Qualex) drop box at a drug store or discount department store anywhere near you? If so, and if you can live with the cardboard mounts (and very gently dusting some occasional paper dust off of them afterward), they typically turn around E-6 in 5 days. Kodachrome turns around in 5-7 days. Cost is about $5 per roll. Probably uses bulk processing the the "rollers" you mention, but have not had any serious problems with their processing. The only issue is having to clean the "kodadust" off of a few every now and then. I typically leave them in the cardboard mounts unless the mount gets damaged some how (usually excessive handling). At that point I remount it in a plastic one.

In buying film, I am now getting most of it from B&H and ordering enough at a time to amortize the S&H cost to a reasonable one per roll. Much less expensive than buying locally.

Yes, Qualex can do 120/220 also, but I don't trust them with it. Goes through different lab handling and they have fogged the end frames of nearly every roll sent them; C-41 and E-6.
