You remind me about that, I have only made one test shoot with them at home
(three 50/3.5 including the SC, can remember which two MC), I can
distinguish them side by side. Just have too many toys, I think I have just
used the 2xx,xxx once for a job. The 17x was the one I have used for the
longest time, there was some coating mark on the rear element and a glass
chip off on an inside element, so I wanted to find a better one, although
with such defects, it still worked fine in most situation, at least not the
flare I have seen with the SC ver (which look very clear). The 18x was the
last one I got which came with an outfit, I have never take it out.

May be there are not much different between different MC version, but I
prefer to pay a bit more for a latest one.
