The 55mm f1.2 is also horrid for flare being single coated and having such a
large lens element. And yes I often have to risk taking blurred photos of my
fingers when I shade the lens with my hand. The absolute worst lens for
flare I have currently is the 100mm 2.8; Even with lens hood it is so
susceptible and sometimes I get a surprise when the film shows severe flare
that I hadn't noticed so much in the viewfinder.

I guess the answer is to avoid flare situations.
