You are perfectly wright, Scott!

You should never use JPG to work with. My pictures are about 6 to 30 MB big
in TIFF-format. For printing with 300 dpi 20x30 up to 30x45 this is the
minimum. To show you this pictures in the web, I decrease them to 600x800
pixel and compress to about 100 kb. This is only usable for viewing on the
monitor. For printing it's to poor quality.

...I find you can resample an image in PS to ~1024x768 and save using
"medium" compression and produce a file of 70-80KB. Here's such an image I
recently processed in this way:
