I can't remember whether this has come up before (how could it not have?):
Should we store lenses, either on the shelf or in the bag, nose up or nose
down?
Here's why I ask. Several years ago there was a discussion about this on the
N*kon list. The consensus seemed to be that N*kkors should go nose down AND
be racked to their smallest aperture. The reason is that N*kkors, unlike
Zuikos, rest at whatever aperture the lens is set to and that setting them
at the smallest aperture and nose down prevents the development of sticky
diaphrams because the diaphram curves slightly toward the back of the lens.
Gravity therefore keeps grease from getting into the blades this way.
I don't know if the latter is really a concern with Zuikos. Though our
lenses rest wide open, I'm guessing the preponderance of oil that could get
on the blades is ahead of the diaphram, so I tend to park mine all nose
down. Does it really matter?
