Ansel Adams covered tripods in a section of his book "The Camera" and on p.
131 relates how a heavier tripod may not be your solution to stability:

(After writing about weighting as others have already suggested, he said:)
"...If such resonances are persistent, try the tripod with a different
camera, or replace it. I have had many annoying experiences of this kind,
including one 19-pound tripod of great strength that nevertheless vibrated
when used with a small 2 1/4 x 2 1/4 camera."

It seems that I recall some other camera writer saying too light of a camera
on too heavy a tripod causes vibration.

One of the old tricks with tripods to help dampen vibration of this type and stabilize them is hanging a _modest_ weight (a couple pounds or a kilo) from the bottom of the center post or bottom of the head.
