Subjective Quality Factor. A methodology developed by Popular
Photography (USA-based photography magazine) which assigns grades based
on how good a print looks at various levels of magnification. I
simplified the procedure to 1) evaluate a projected image (after
sharpening the focus for the area I was evaluating) and 2) look only at
images projected to an approximately 18x magnification.

In next months issue there will be a major overhaul to SQF testing, with
tests printed for the recent lenses that have only been presented as
resolution data. I can't recall that Popular Photography ever told us
what film they were using for the resolution testing. It makes a pretty
big difference!
