Hi all, please accept my apologies if this has already appeared on the
list. I'm half-dozen digests behind at the moment, and every time I
think I'm catching up another blizzard hits the in-box.

The text below is copied with the author's permission from a mailing
that went out to the Digital Imaging Group of Britain's Royal
Photographic Society. I thought one or two of us might be
interested....

If you're interested, please reply direct to the author, David Simm
at info@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx . I am also going to send David info
about our list, including how to read the archives and how to
su*scribe, when I can find it. But if you are mailing him you might
be
able to sign him up first!

Best all,
John

David's email:

Wedding Photographer's Camera

Notwithstanding that the Camel is only a Racehorse designed by a
committee, I am today seeking the input of my professional colleagues,
involved in wedding photography. We have an unique opportunity to
influence the development of a digital camera targeted specifically at
the social photographer.

At last a major equipment manufacturer has stepped back and taken an
interest in our discipline of photography. Well known for being
responsive to customer service feedback, Olympus, in response to a
series of emails and a chance meeting with one their technical
marketing support representatives, have invited me to meet with their
Chief Design Engineer to consult on future digital product
development.

As you can well imagine, I am delighted with the prospect of having a
camera built to the specs of the wedding and portrait photographer.
Unlike many other camera makers, who lean towards pressmen, nature
photographers and amateurs, (who ever heard of a wedding portrait
being shot at 1/8000th of a second, or with the Mickey Mouse little
built in flash, worse still who needs a very expensive fish eye to act
as a medium W/A lens), Olympus are willing to work to fulfil our
needs, recognising that we are a market force.

Get back to me quickly, letting me know the features you would like to
see included or even left off. Just look at it this way, you can't go
out to cover a wedding with one camera, even if you now own a more
expensive system, why would you want to spend thousands more to keep a
back up camera in your bag?. If every digital wedding photographer
just bought an Olympus for their back up, that is a huge volume of
sales.

None the less, the camera we will design will be so much better than
the competition's, when it comes to our needs, those who haven't
already invested, may choose to wait and see what Olympus can come up
with. Olympus have a glorious history, from the early Pen F, through
the renowned OM series and into prosumer digital, that I am convinced
they will come up to the mark! With your help I will be able to
account for the needs of all social photographers.

Thank you in advance for an early response.

David
