According to the OM2sp manual you should set the aperture ring to
highest #/smallest aperture when using program mode. I would like to
force program mode to use larger apertures and faster shutter speeds by
setting the aperture ring to f8 for example. Kind of like semi-aperture
priority. Is this possible?

Yes, Mike, you can bias program mode toward fast shutter
speeds/shallower depth of field by setting the lens to a wider
aperture. Just watch that the shutter speed doesn't go out of range
(i.e. > 1000) with a fast film in bright light.
