Actually it's not. It does require a tripod and cable release. Set on manual operation, set aperture (for film speed), set shutter to "B," listen for the "whoomp" sound of the mortar firing a skyrocket and open the shutter. It will be open when the burst occurs. It's not loud, but you don't have to be that close to hear the sound of a large skyrocket launching if you listen for it. The sound is unique at fireworks shows.

Once you're set up and aimed (I usually use a 35mm short lens and mount the camera on its side) all you need to do is open and close the shutter and wind the film between frames.
