Hi guys,

I thought I'd share with you some impressions I
got after seeing the first roll of slide that I
shot with my new gear. Most is shot with the
90mm/f2.0 (ser.103xxx). Just one or 2 pics were
done with the 50mm/f1.4 (ser.1000xxx). BTW, I
was surprised to get 39 shots back from my
36-shot Sensia II roll ! Does this happen a lot
? I also found the grain & colour quality of the
Sensia to be very pleasing, *way* more so than
the Kodak Gold 200 negative film that I have used
in the past. What I didn't expect, was that the
Sensia didn't need exposure compensation for the
10-second shots that I tried. I didn't think
slide film would be so tolerant. Unfortunately,
I just don't find slides so practical. I could
use it as a cheap way of previewing my
photographs in high quality (big screen), and
then have the best ones printed, but I'm afraid
that could be rather expensive. Is there a
negative film that has comparable characteristics
?

OK, back to OM stuff !

To test the exposure system of the OM-4T, I did
some shots of difficult light conditions :
reflections of the sun on metallic surfaces, some
backlit conditions and a candle lit scene with an
exposure of around 10 seconds. I measured one
backlit scene with 2 spots, and there's a couple
of leaves right in front of the bright sky that
are nicely burnt out. The OM-4T is perfect, even
though when I first saw it, it looked rather
battered. I'm happy that it's really just the
champagne paint peeling off.

The 90mm/f2.0 came with the original box, leather
softcase, manual, and a guarantee proof that's
still blank. Do you think I could fill it in and
date it July 2001 ? Anyway. I found the lens to
be in an exceedingly good state, and it shows in
the pictures, too. It renders the colours very,
very richly, much more so than the 50mm/f1.4
does. I found the latter to be rather dull, but
maybe it's just because I'm comparing to the
impressionist. Which is actually not the worst
description for the 90mm. The bokeh and the
transition of parts that are out-of-focus into
focus is unbelievably smooth. Add to this the
really nice colour rendition, and the only
comparison I can make is with a pastel or a
colour pencil drawing, seen from far away. The
result is so soft I just want to hug the
pictures. I find that sad. I'm already fondling
the 90mm every day, now I also want to hug the
pictures :-)

Does anybody know a place in Belgium (pref.
Leuven, Antwerp or neighbourhood) where I can
have my slides scanned ? My sister has a flatbed
scanner with a "slide adapter", but I'm looking
for alternatives in case this combo doesn't work
well (which is what I expect). Does Fnac have
this service ? Or should I be able to get it
automatically when I drop off my film ?

Peter.
