That would be the Napthalene (?) in old style moth repellent balls. Not the
same thing, I think.

Moth ball joke -
Someone invented an engine that would run on moth balls. It was considered
economically non-viable to fit in automobiles as no-one would be prepared
to stay up all night before a drive - catching male moths.

M. ball joke -
Marilyn Monroe was fascinated by the matzo ball soup that her mother-in-law
kept serving. Eventually, she could contain her curiosity no longer - "Tell
me Mrs Miller, what do you do with the rest of the matzo?"
